ChildFund Sri Lanka has been working in eastern province since 2005. Just after the tsunami, an Area Office was established to cater the needs of the Tsunami victims of Ampara district. Eventually, this office which was situated in Kalmunai was extended to Batticaloa implementing emergency programs in Batticaloa. An Area Office was established in Batticaloa 2008. Several emergency short term programs were implemented in Batticaloa from the funds made available from CF New Zealand, CF Taiwan, CF Australia and US Aid etc. Most of our programs were implemented in Manmunai west DS division. In 2008 a long term grant program called KOHA targeting the livelihood security of the vulnerable people was implemented for 3 years in Manmunai West DS division. At the same time more short term projects were implemented to cater to the needs of the Youth. These projects came under the heading Youth Career Guidance Project.
The main donor for most of the projects was ChildFund New Zealand. The officials of the CF New Zealand visited the program sites in 2009 and felt that there should be a long term program for Manmunai West DS division, so they suggested to have a Sponsorship Program in Manmunai West DS division, this was to be a 15 year long term program. CF New Zealand also made Vavunathivu Area (Manmunai West DS division) to be their dedicated area and named, “Singing Fish area”.

The clock keeps ticking and life goes on. But despite the difficulties we faced this year as well, we at AU Lanka kept our focus on making the quality of that life much better. Despite the negative impacts that covid and other factors have had we have continued to support the children and communities. By keeping our attitude positive we have seen both success and growth. AU Lanka has never lost sight of its vision, and thus we spared no effort in working with the communities with the goal of of creating a strong civil society that safeguards the Desire and Well-Being of People. The task is no easy one in this day and age but we are happy to say that our efforts were not wasted as many communities benefitted from our support, and in the process we also learned much about evolving with the changing circumstances. Our office in Mullaithivu is also going full steam ahead with its programs and outreach.
The monitoring mechanisms that are in operation have enabled us to ensure that funds are invested wisely, a few changes in staff placements has made for a very strong and versatile team when it comes to implementing our projects. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank the dedicated AU Lanka staff for their tireless services. The biggest thank you still goes to ChildFund who continue to be our main funding partner and technical advisor. If not for ChildFund we would nt be where we are today. Last but not least I would like to invite all to join hands with us in building up the lives and standards of Children, Youth and communities. This annual report shows our progress and statistics for the financial year.
As CEO of Action Unity Lanka let me first thank you for visiting our website, and we hope that you will find it informative. Our organization is primarily a child focused organization, but as you will see we are not limited in our scope.
We have always kept in mind that helping children is a long term project, but the end result will be felt in the entire community and even country as more and more children will be given access to education and skill development, thus becoming an asset to the country.
Child rights are also of great importance and we ensure that this one of our strong advocacy points. In addition we try to assist parents and communities so that children have a safe and secure environment in order to progress and grow. The present situation in the country has added many challenges, but AU Lanka has risen to meet them head on.
Food security is something that has begun to affect all of us, and with the support of our donors and stakeholders we have been able to address this issue in our program areas. We have given special attention to not just trying to solve an immediate problem but also to create viable and sustainable solutions.
We hope to keep you updated regularly by means of the website, so please keep visiting us, and feel free to contact us if you wish to join hands with us in helping the deprived, excluded and vulnerable children and communities in the country.
